The subjects/targets of/that physics focuses on are extremely extensive, which is from the "fundamental particles" that people have been exploring and constructed into our world to the vast universe. Physics explores the basic rules of the operation motion and interaction of the matter in our world and the various physical phenomena supported by these rules. Any Every revolution in for the understanding of physical phenomena or laws makes a revolutionary impact on the advances of science and technology and as well as the improvement of human living standards/quality, which spans from Newton's View of Absolute Space-Time to Einstein's view of Relativity Space-Time, from the description of thermal phenomena to the invention and application of thermal machines, from the description of electromagnetic phenomena to the application of Maxwell equations, from the dispute between the volatility of light or particle nature to the application of photons as well as from Newton to quantum mechanics, and so on. We have reason to believe that physics will continue to play a fundamental role in new concept、new materials、new technology and the new cultural movements brought about by these new developments in the foreseeable future, as it has been and still is.

Department of Physical science & technology of Lanzhou University has long educational history. Since founded in 1946 a large amount of talent students have been cultivated for over seventy years. This process paves a way for the profound culture of talented person, and gradually shapes the spirit of the department “study diligently,悟道,innovation, cultivating the talented”. The development of the department is highly related with the development of the homeland, which showed the significant scene combined with both the flourishing period and the flourishing in history. Generations of people working and studying in the department of physics, Lanzhou University, worked conscientiously, and blend of their youth and warm blood with the process of development of the college. Keeping in mind the past and looking forward to the future, the development of the college will show a critical period which is probably the best and the last one for getting prosperous during the coming two or three decades.as we know. “A boat sailing against the current must forge ahead or it will be driven back”, it is a basic principle for every person who focuses on physics.

The college began to launch teaching reform in 2017，and implemented the new talents cultivation program progressively under the guiding principle of “hierarchical teaching、classified cultivation、the reserve of solid foundation、the export to be broadened ” step by step. The college was included/selected in the comprehensive reform of the school pilot unit in 2018, adhering to the development philosophy of “everyone builds constructs platform, everyone has shares platform” to, and to set up the platform and carding organize system, seek the development shoulder to shoulder and create brilliance glory with full of enthusiasm. Teachers, dear classmates and our honored alumi, physics gives us the best platform to play a role, history gives us the best opportunity to play a role as well as policy gives us the best guarantee to play our role. Let's join together hands and get ready/prepare for the future、seize opportunities、make the first move with great enthusiasm and high spirits, persevere in ‘ high moral values establishment and people cultivation’, center on the goal of talents cultivation to strengthen and advance the construction of three first-class disciplines— Physics; Material Science and Engineering; and Electronic Science and Technology. Let us be down to earth and look to focus on the future, make arduous efforts to cultivate young talents person who can serve as a stimulus for national development in the coming twenty or thirty years.
