He is known as the first person in China to have independent patents on printing consumables, breaking the technology monopoly of multinational companies over my country for more than 30 years in one fell swoop. He led the team to develop and produce China’s first laser printer with independent intellectual property rights with core technologies independently, making our country the fourth country in the world to research and manufacture laser printers after the United States, Japan, and South Korea, achieving zero breakthroughs. Rooted in Zhuhai enterprises, he used national sentiment and blood to blaze a trail of independent innovation in industry to serve the country. He is Wang Dongying, the chairman of Ninestar Co., Ltd., the vice chairman of China Computer Industry Association, and the alumna of the 1988 physics department of Lanzhou University who majored in magnetic physics.
In 1988, Wang Dongying graduated from Lanzhou University. At the age of 22, he was assigned to Zhuhai Gree Magnet as a technical staff. Several years of grass-roots practice made Wang Dongying more familiar with technical details, and soon he was promoted to one of the main technical personnel of the department. In his work, he has always adhered to a meticulous, rigorous and realistic attitude. In the process of new product development, he carefully found that the production materials did not match the technical standards required by the products. The communication with the supervisors was fruitless. After being returned by the customer, Wang Dongying issued a military order to smoothly solve the product problem within 2 months, and rescued the company's urgent need in time.
In 2001, Wang Dongying joined Zhuhai Ninestar Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and served as the general manager. In 2006, he successfully founded Zhuhai Saina Technology Co., Ltd. and served as CEO.As an enterprise leader, Wang Dongying not only pays attention to the development of the enterprise, but also cares about the development of the motherland. He has always been concerned about the fact that China's printer market has been monopolized by foreign companies. In 2008, he led the team that was doing the printing consumables business to participate in an international exhibition. At the exhibition, he looked around basically Japanese and Korean products and especially in the printer display area almost no domestic brands could be seen. However, China's printing consumables products have been jointly suppressed by foreign brands, and the exhibition has little effect. Few brands have survived in the cracks.
"China does not have a printer with its own core technology. I think China must have it. The country needs it very much." At that time, in front of domestic printers were the mature technologies and huge patent barriers of several major printer manufacturers from the United States and Japan. They use patents to monopolize the market, restrict the entry of domestic manufacturers, and make profits through the continuous sales of high-priced printing consumables.Recalling the 7-year-old consumable patent disputes with Japan's Canon, Epson, HP, Lexmark, and the European Union, Wang Dongying's long-existing thoughts have become stronger: to make our own printer, grasp the initiative in the printing industry, and no longer be an affiliate of foreign-funded enterprises!
With enthusiasm, experienced more than 700 days and nights of fighting, China's first laser printer with independent core technology--BENTU printer was grandly released in the Great Hall of the People in 2010! Since then, we have taken off the hat of "printers without independent intellectual property rights" in my country. Dreams of a big country come true.
To Innovate, transcend and compose a legend!Wang Dongying described this as the happiest moment in his life, "like seeing his newborn child". The R&D team embraced, laughed, and cried, and only they understood the hardship and happiness.
"Once a person has a dream, it becomes different."After the successful launch of laser printers, Wang Dongying made another decision that seemed almost crazy to others: acquiring the international renowned printer and service provider Lexmark International (Lermark). Lexmark International’s operating income in 2015 reached 3.5 billion dollars, equivalent to approximately 22.976 billion yuan. In this year, Wang Dongying’s company’s operating income was 2 billion yuan, and Lexmark’s operating income was approximately 10 times that of his. The assets size difference is nearly 9 times.
In order to successfully complete the acquisition, from the beginning of contact negotiations to the final success of the cash offshore transaction, it was normal for Wang Dongying to work all night long, and international flights were his daily means of transportation. In 2016, they raised 26 billion yuan in cash to successfully merge this American printing giant company, and the company has grown to more than 5,000 employees in the United States alone.
From the initial follower to the current transcendence, Pantum only took about 4 years. In Wang Dongying's mind, pushing the manufacturing in China in the printing field to a new height and making the layout of the global industrial chain is the goal he has always insisted on!
After going through the wind and rain and creating a miracle, Wang Dongying looks back on the way he came, and what he is most grateful for is the training of his alma mater Lanzhou University. At the 110th Anniversary Conference of Lanzhou University, he expressed affectionately as a representative of alumni: "I am an ordinary person. The reason why I can do some extraordinary things is because the school spirit of Lanzhou University has been integrated into my blood and turned into my genes. The school motto of "To be Self-improvement and uniqueness" has been inscribed in my heart and it is my original intention and my dream. As a student of Lanzhou University, I am very proud!"
